Ayurveda: The Wisdom of Daily Living for Yoga Teachers and Practitioners
|
Category: Wellness Practitioners When: Saturday, February 20, 2010 Time: 8:30 – 9:30 AM |
Ayurveda, the world’s oldest comprehensive health care system, is the Science of Life or Wisdom of Daily Living that has been practiced in India for 6000 years. It is considered the “sister science” to Yoga and is one of the most recognized and widely practiced disciplines of alternative medicine in the West. It imparts wisdom on how to live in balance with oneself and the environment. A profound philosophy that conjoins “Mind, Body, Spirit” as a framework for Holistic Health and Wellness, Ayurveda is a practical knowledge of self-healing that anyone can learn.
In this session, through reflection, discussion, and dialogue, we will explore and experience the ABCs of Ayurveda and the philosophy it shares with Yoga and Patanjali’s 8 Limbs. Experience the elements in yourself by answering a short questionnaire and sharing the results.
You’ll learn the practical applications of Ayurveda, and how Ayurveda supports Yoga practice by understanding the elements, their functions, and how they form the doshas, your constitutional make-up, and their relationship to the mind and gunas. You’ll also learn how to use postures, breathing, and meditation, applied with the wisdom of Ayurveda to organize an appropriate yoga practice that will balance body, mind, and spirit in order to move forward in life with grace and ease, free of disease.
