Have you ever been meditating and wondered, “Am I doing this right? Is there a better technique out there? Why don’t I feel more at peace?”

After presentations at a recent Mind-Life conference with the Dalai Lama and scientists from around the globe, it was stated, “If meditation was a drug, it would be considered the miracle drug of this era.”

The benefits of meditation are profound, yet the practice itself is rife with myths and confusion. These misunderstandings can make meditation as intolerable as fingernails on a chalkboard.

The practice of meditation can lead to what’s known as the ‘immeasurable states’ of compassion, love, joy, and equanimity. To cultivate these qualities of heart and mind, we need a strong understanding of where meditation leads us and how to navigate the challenges that arise.

Through lecture and guided experiences, we’ll examine some of the most prevalent myths about meditation that can lead to confusion and frustration. You’ll be able to:

  • Learn the keys to enliven your meditation practice
  • Recognize stages of meditation and how to consciously shift your attention for maximum benefit
  • Recognize and transform the five mind states that make it impossible to be present
  • Explore how to bring mindfulness ‘off the cushion’ to the world of relationships and responsibilities
  • Learn about different techniques and their effect on consciousness
  • Investigate the two fundamental questions that will deepen your practice

You’ll also learn what techniques are a best match for your mood, how to cultivate a practice that feels alive and vibrant, and how to skillfully use the practice of meditation – not only to work with difficulties as they arise, but to thrive in these challenging times.
